Your Google Account: Signing up

Google Account. Once you have a Google Account, just go to the Google Docs homepage and sign in.

The Google Account acts as a secure authentication method to keep your online accounts private while also allowing you to access numerous Google services with a single sign-in. Note that while it's possible to view a document, spreadsheet or presentation without a Google Account (via an invitation), you'll need to create a Google Account to edit the document, spreadsheet or presentation, and to continue accessing Google Docs.

While a Gmail Account is a Google Account, a Google Account is not necessarily a Gmail account.

Google Apps users, your administrator provisions accounts for your domain. In this case, you will access Google Docs using your Google Apps account at 'http://docs.google.com/a/yourdomain.com', please be sure to replace 'yourdomain.com' with your domain name.

Client-side software

Any software application that is used to access or make better use of the internet and is installed on the user's machine, such as browsers, email clients, and internet messaging programs. This often includes hidden downloads or interferes with other applications.

Balance at end of month

Your Payment History page will show the balance in your AdSense account at the end of every month. This amount reflects verified earnings at the close of that month. If your account balance at the end of the month is greater than US$100 and there are no payment holds on your account, you should be scheduled for a payment the following month.

API

An application programming interface, or API, is an interface that a computer application or system can use to access a set of third party functions or programs. More specifically, the AdSense API is a free beta service that allows website developers to integrate AdSense into their website offerings.

At the moment, the AdSense API is only supported in English. For more information, please visit http://code.google.com/apis/adsense/.

Alternate ads

Alternate Ads allow you to monetize your ad space in the event that Google is unable to serve targeted ads to your page. By specifying an image or ad server of your choice, you can make sure that your advertising space is always being used effectively, either by targeted AdSense ads, or by your own choice of content. Alternate Ads, if specified, will be shown when there are no targeted ads available for your page. The ad space will not be branded as 'Ads by Google.' More...

Address, Valid Mailing

A valid mailing address is a full and complete physical address. Participation in AdSense requires a valid mailing address in order to receive your Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Ad impression

An ad impression is reported whenever an individual ad is displayed on your website. Different ad formats will display varying numbers of ads; for example, each time a vertical banner appears on your site, you'll see two ad impressions in your reports. In addition, keep in mind that the number of ads in any ad unit may vary depending on whether the ad unit is displaying standard text ads, expanded text ads, or image ads.

Ad code

The HTML that is placed on any page of an approved site by the publisher who owns the site, allowing ads to be shown on that page in a specific ad layout format.

Actual cost-per-thousand-impressions

This is the amount an advertiser actually pays for each impression of his/her ad. The AdWords Discounter automatically gives advertisers the lowest possible price in order to maintain their ad's position. The actual CPM will be equal to or less than the maximum CPM specified.

Account type

AdSense offers two account types: Business and Individual. There's no difference in the services or payment structure between Individual and Business accounts. Business account payments will be made payable to the Company Name, while Individual accounts are paid out to the Payee Name of the account holder.

Account creation

An AdSense account will be created for you if your application to the program is accepted. You'll then be able to sign in and activate your account.

What are 'Alternate Ads?'

Alternate ads allow you to utilize your ad space in the event that Google is unable to serve targeted ads to your page. By specifying an image, HTML page, or ad server of your choice, you can make sure that your advertising space is always being used effectively, either by targeted Google ads, or by your own choice of content. You can also select a solid color as your alternate ad, if you prefer not to display other advertisements or content when targeted Google ads are unavailable.

Alternate ads count as ad unit impressions like any other ad. Google does not keep track of clicks on alternate ads, and you will not receive revenue for them.

Alternate ads, if specified, will be shown when there are no targeted ads available for your page. The ad space will not be branded as 'Ads by Google.'

You can learn more about alternate ads by visiting our Alternate Ad Guide.

Where can I get regular AdSense news, feature updates and optimization tips?

You can find news, updates, tips and more by visiting the AdSense blog at adsense.blogspot.com. AdSense team members post several times a week on a wide range of topics, from optimizing AdSense for your forum pages to getting more visibility for your site.

What reports can I view?

You'll be able to view reports for a specific day or date range, on an aggregate level or broken down into your defined channels. You'll see the total number of page, ad unit, and ad impressions as well as ad clicks, clickthrough rate (CTR), cost per thousand impressions (effective CPM), and your earnings. Reports are typically updated hourly, with an occasional delay of up to 24 hours.

After you register for a webinar you will receive a link to a Google Moderator page, where you can ask questions related to the webinar topic and vote on others' questions. We'll answer as many questions as possible during the event.

In advance of each webinar, we encourage you to research the topic using the links provided in the agenda for each.

Technical requirements: To participate, all you need is a computer with an Internet connection and speakers or a pair of headphones. Note to Mac users: Our current version of WebEx Event Center does not support Internet Phone (VOIP) for Mac users. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please note, however, that webinar recordings will be posted here the day after each live event.

Google AdSense Phone Verification

Google AdSense Phone VerificationPrint
Do I need to verify my phone number?

As part of our effort to protect the accounts of AdSense publishers and provide account-specific support, a valid phone number is required for publishers. To ensure that your information is accurate and up-to-date, we use telephone number verification.

Phone number verification is not required for publishers in all locations. If it is required for you, you'll see a prompt appear on your My Account tab, as described below.
How does phone verification work?

When you're ready to verify your number, visit your My Account tab and click the 'Please verify your phone number' link in the Required Action section. This link will bring you to a page where you'll be able to initiate a call by clicking a button. Our system will automatically call you at the number listed, and when you pick up the phone you'll receive a 5-digit code to enter into a box on the page.

Please note that phone numbers with extensions do not work with our phone verification system.

How long do I have to enter a verification code?

You'll have 6 months from the date that your earnings reached the verification threshold to enter your verification code. If you have not entered your verification code within 4 months, we will replace the paid advertisements on your site with unpaid Public Service Ads. If you still have not entered your verification code within 6 months, your account will be disabled and your unpaid earnings will be refunded to the appropriate advertisers.

How do I get the AdSense code?

The AdSense code is generated from within your publisher account. This is the code that you'll need to add to your pages in order to display Google ads or a search box on your webpages. Please follow the steps below to generate your AdSense code:

1.Log in to your account at https://www.google.com/adsense
2.Visit the AdSense Setup tab
3.Choose your product - AdSense for content to place ads on your site, AdSense for search to add a search box to your site.
4.Follow the guided setup to choose a format and colors. You can also choose any additional options that may apply to
your site, including channels and alternate ads
5.Your code will be generated in the Your ad code window according to your selections.
6.Copy-and-paste the code into the source code of the webpages on which you wish to display Google ads or an AdSense for search box. For tips on adding the code to your page, read How do I add the AdSense code to my site?.
7.If implemented correctly, Google ads or a search box will appear immediately. Initially, the ads that appear may be public service ads, for which you will not receive earnings. Once our crawlers have visited your page, however, targeted ads will begin to appear.

How do I sign in to my account?

To sign in to your AdSense account, follow these steps:

1.Visit https://www.google.com/adsense
2.In the Existing AdSense Users box, enter the email address and password you supplied during signup.
3.Click Sign in to enter your account.
If this is your first time entering your account, you'll be asked to read and sign the Google AdSense Terms and Conditions. There's important information about the program, so take the time to read through these terms before proceeding.

Once you've read through the document, select the agreement checkbox and click I agree to continue to your account.
